Why is this egg hotter than Kylie Jenner?!

On January 4, 2019, a new Instagram account posted a picture of an ordinary chicken egg. The caption basically asked us to like the picture in order to break the world record for the most number of likes. The previous record was held by Kylie Jenner with a picture of her newborn baby with 18 million likes.

As of writing this post, the egg has around 40 million likes, far ahead of Kylie.

As you know, humans are very social animals. We like to fit in. Be a part of a group. Whether we like it or not. It’s kept our species alive and fed. So when a social phenomenon occurs, a few people at first will start to be a part of it. They will contribute to it. Slowly, but gradually, others will join in just for the sake of doing what others are doing. We get a kick from contributing to a movement that is massive just because of other people like you.

The world record egg shows us how much power we have as a collective entity. And also the reach of social media. We’ve seen this type of trends happen before. Ellen’s oscars selfie, the Wendy’s chicken nuggets kid, PEWDIEPIE…         (guys, the sub gap is getting close, so please subscribe to pewdiepie)

By the way, for some reason pewdiepie is tagged in the picture too. Also check out world_record_egg’s Instagram stories. It’s filled with egg memes.

Just wanted to try out this type of short and informative post. I’ll get back to the long and in-depth ones from next week.

Edit: PewDiePie actually made a Meme Review👏👏 (feat. Gloria Borger) about this entire trend. You should go watch.

Also, I tried way too hard to not make egg jokes.
