The project team at RAC is developing an AI model that can detect face masks and alert the area if there is a chance of transmission (when a face without a mask is detected). We are working on integrating this into our college's CCTV camera system. In the future we plan on adding provisions for temperature as well as detection of social distancing. PROJECT REBUILD: This is an initiative created to ease the transition into a post-covid 19 "new normal" in our organisation and society. So far, under this initiative, we have developed a multipurpose patient monitoring robot, mask detection and alarm system and more covid 19 relief projects on the way. #covid19 #newnormal #kct #rac #rebuild #staysafe #wearmask #socialdistancing #washhands @lifeatkct @mce_kct @rac_kct @kct_84
This is our second project that is a part of PROJECT REBUILD, which is an initiative that we started at Robotics and Automation Club to ease the transition of the “new normal” in our college post-COVID.
In this project, we used a machine learning model to detect whether a person is wearing a mask or not in the field of view of a specific surveillance camera. If a person was detected without a mask, it would alert them using a flashing light next to the camera.
The goal of this project is to ensure that students in our college strictly adhere to the safety guidelines.
Future additions to the system include, but are not limited to, thermal imaging to detect the body temperature of the people and detecting the distance between the people to ensure social distancing norms.
